May 17, 2020

Spring has sprung (finally) and we have been enjoying so many Spring activities. Although it is now May, and Spring technically starts in March, here in good ol’ Canada, we have only had nice weather and no snow for about 2-3 weeks now. I love Spring because we...

This little small world was made using cotton balls as the base! We also added in other odds and ends that we had on hand and then our @terrabybattat polar bears! Because my toddler is very into this type of play right now, she loved this! She played with it for days. She has been very into pretend play and playing with her animal figures lately and it’s so adorable to watch 🥰

Is your toddler into pretend play / imaginative play right now? If not what are they currently loving?! Let me know in the comments 💙❄️

Our favourite way to reuse our water beads is to a Our favourite way to reuse our water beads is to add shaving cream! We took our water beads from our last activity and added some shaving cream, penguins, ice trays, spoons and scooping tools, bowls, etc. I always also add a bin of clean water and a towel. That way if she wants to rinse her hand she can!
.
.
This may look very messy. And it was. However I laid a towel down under our table and that caught all of the water. Everything in the bins was just rinsed in our tub afterward. The table is wiped clean in seconds with a towel. Aside from a stray water beads here and there, this cleanup was very easy! There were definitely a few gentle reminders mid play to “remember to keep it in the table” which is a firm boundary we hold that makes messy play possible!

Water Bead Fun ❄️💙 . . It had been a while Water Bead Fun ❄️💙
.
.
It had been a while since we pulled out our water beads, so I had the idea to make a winter set up using our white and clear water beads!
.
.
I love water beads, and so does my toddler! They are super easy prep (literally just add water and let them sit) and you can reuse them over and over. They are also super relaxing to play with.
.
.
I usually let me water beads sit in water overnight so they are ready for play in the morning. When we are done playing with them I just put them in a container and store them away. Depending on how long between play time, they will shrink down again but all you have to do is add more water with each play session!
.
.
Because water beads can be a choking hazard, I would not recommend them for babies or toddlers who are still tempted to put things in their mouths.

Winter letter match ❄️💙 . . This easy littl Winter letter match ❄️💙
.
.
This easy little activity is so easy, budget friendly, and a great little tool for learning!
Not to mention peeling and sticking is great for fine motor development!
.
All I did was take a blue piece of paper and draw a little winter scene. Nothing fancy it took about 2 minutes with some paint markers! Then I wrote the letters A-Z all over the “sky”. The last step was the write the letters on dot stickers.
.
The goal is to have your toddler peel and stick the letter on the matching letter. In the end it makes it look like it’s snowing!
.
You can easily modify using shapes, numbers, etc. ❄️💙

💛 Let’s talk about Quiet Time 💛 . . Last w 💛 Let’s talk about Quiet Time 💛
.
.
Last week I posted a poll asking if anyone would be interested in a post on how we implemented quiet time after losing our nap time. Not only was the poll in favour of the post, I had so many messages with questions and interest around this topic!
.
So today, I have a quiet time post for you! And the best part is I was lucky enough to have @jessicalevangiesleep provide her professional input around dropping that last nap and implementing quiet time in its place.
.
The post is a combination of Jessica’s professional tips as well as my own personal experiences with quiet time. The best part is that my own experience and strategies aligned really well with the information Jessica sent me for the post!
.
So if you are currently in the transition from dropping the beloved nap time, but still needing that break in your day (because hello, parenting is HARD), quiet time may be just what you need!
.

Winter Sensory Bottles 🐧❄️💙 . . I love s Winter Sensory Bottles 🐧❄️💙
.
.
I love swapping out our sensory bottles for something new and fresh. In these winter bottles I just used dyed chickpeas from another activity we did, along with some beads, gems, and other odds and ends. In the other bottles I just used water, glitter, and some gems and beads. Nothing special, nothing fancy. These took less than 10 minutes to make and will stay in our play space for probably about a month until I swap them out.
.
While sensory bottles are such a great option for babies, they are also a great addition to a calm down corner or quiet space for your toddler. I think Mia enjoys these more now at 3.5 then she did as a baby!
.
Have you ever made your own sensory bottles? Our bottles are from @michaelsstores but empty VOSS water bottles work great as well.

It’s definitely messy, but it’s also very minimal prep and is one thing that holds my 3.5 year olds attention for a really good stretch of time. And while it may be messy, it’s also quite easy to clean up!

A fun little play dough tray yesterday with a penguin theme! Nothing fancy here, we made some home made play dough on the weekend and yesterday I put it in our tray with some tools and little loose parts we already had on hand. My daughter loves penguins, this this will probably be the first of many penguins inspired activities you will see in the next month or so. 😂 She seen them at our local zoo once and has loved them ever since.
.
.
I will add our homemade play dough recipe to our stories today. It makes the softest play dough and I swear by it! 🥰❄️
